Giving back–do you volunteer or donate to charity? 31 Days of Christmas

31dayslogoThe holidays are a great time, and provide many opportunities to give back to your community: The Salvation Army always has people out with the cans & bells, Toys for Tots, Angel Trees, helping out at local shelters (volunteering to help serve meals, etc), donations to food banks.  You name something, and there’s a good bet you can either volunteer to help or give a donation.

I like to take my son shopping and pick out a toy…or several…to donate to Toys for Tots (and bonus for me…hot fireman for eye candy lol!). We talk about the organization and what they do, so he knows that the toys go to a child who may not have many toys or get much for Christmas. I find it very important to teach him the importance of giving back and this is a way for us to have fun doing it.

swagHow do you give back? Comment below for a chance to #win a fun swag pack.  And don’t forget to enter for the grand prize—a Kindle Voyager or $199 gift card.  Make sure to stop by & give Mina Carter some love, too.  All winners announced on January 4.

Around Christmas I always take my grandchildren shopping for a toy and a pair of pj’s we wrap them than we take it to a family that we sponsor. They love watching them open the presents and watch their smiles on their faces..

Honestly I donate all my kids old toys and clothes all year. But don’t really do anything special as far donating at Christmas. One of the reason is I can not afford too.

We volunteer at a local church that provides dinner every Wednesday and Saturday. The volunteers are great and even though we aren’t parishioners we are welcomed. Volunteers transport people from shelters, but drop-ins are welcomed and no one is turned away. We enjoy being part of this giving back to the community.

Usually I volunteer. Engage in children and seniors programs. I offer my professional services for free (former MSW) and also help with organizing and carry out the Christmas parties.

My husband and I volunteer for a Christmas themed fundraiser at our daughters’ school. This takes about 4 months of work and a full week of volunteering. It is like a full time job that week. We also donate clothes/toys to charity usually in November. We make the kids get rid of stuff before they get new things for Christmas.

I don’t to Salvation Army every time I see one out in front of a store ringing there bell. This year my son and I helped out in his cub scout group and collected donation for our local social services so kids that didn’t get gifts would have something to open Christmas morning and that was really nice. I also donate about every month to my local red box by giving clothes and toys that we no longer need.

I know many people who give back to the less fortunate all year round. What i do is i donate to the local dog rescue center all year. I give food & treats to go to the center, clothing, bedding, books & anything else i can for them to sell in their charity shop to pay for food, new bedding, vetinary & other bills.
